A casino, also called a gambling hall or a gaming room, is a building where people can gamble and play games of chance. In most countries, casinos are licensed and regulated by the government. Most casinos offer a wide variety of games, including blackjack, roulette, poker and slot machines. Some casinos also have a restaurant and bar.

Casinos typically accept all bets made by patrons within an established limit. Therefore, it is impossible for a patron to win more than the casino can afford to pay, and it is very rare that a casino experiences a net loss. Because of this virtual assurance of profitability, casinos regularly provide large bettors with extravagant inducements to keep them coming back, such as free spectacular entertainment, luxury living quarters, reduced-fare transportation and hotel rooms, free drinks and cigarettes while gambling, and other rewards.

Most casino games depend on luck and chance, but some require a degree of skill. Those that do have a skill element often allow players to improve their odds of winning by following a set of optimal plays, such as card counting in blackjack. Casinos earn money from these games by charging a commission, or a rake, to the players who place bets.

The most famous casino is probably the Bellagio in Las Vegas, renowned for its fountain show that features synchronized water and light displays set to music. Other prestigious casinos include the Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, the Casino Lisboa in Lisbon, and the Casino Baden-Baden in Germany.
